正面描述 Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as rendered by engraver Susan Taylor for the fourth portrait series, depicting the Queen at approximately 77 years of age, bare-headed and uncrowned, wearing a necklace and earrings. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 1 DOLLAR and the date appear in the lower field. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the facial features and regalia.

附加信息

The "GML" privy mark on this issue denotes the initials of Susanna Blunt, whose portrait of Elizabeth II was adopted by Canada in 2003 — the first Canadian-designed effigy of the monarch used on circulation coinage. The bullion fraction series of which this belongs was introduced by the RCM partly to compete with fractional gold products from the Perth Mint and the U.S. Mint's American Eagle program.

At 1/20 oz, this is the smallest denomination in the Maple Leaf bullion family. The .9999 fineness standard was itself a marketing differentiator when first introduced in 1982, undercutting the Krugerrand's .9167 alloy.
