| Reverse description | The reverse features a richly coloured and high-relief depiction of the Doors of Durin (the West-gate of Moria) from J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium, as portrayed in Peter Jackson's film adaptation. The ornate arched gateway, flanked by two pillars and surmounted by Elvish inscriptions and the Seven Stars and crown of Durin, is set against a colour-treated background of deep greens evoking the waters of the Mirrormere. Entwined serpentine forms extend from either side of the gate across the inner field, surrounded by bare, skeletal trees rendered in fine relief. The design is framed by a decorative Celtic knotwork border, with the legend 'THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING * 20TH ANNIVERSARY' arching along the upper periphery and the denomination 'ONE DOLLAR' inscribed along the lower border. |
