| 背面描述 | The reverse presents a central seven-pointed star motif filled with a vibrant pad-printed depiction of a Sturt's Desert Pea flower in red, set against a detailed radiating sunburst background in black and silver. The star is surrounded by seven circular vignettes, each representing one of the Australian states and territories with their respective floral or faunal emblems. The legend 'CENTENARY OF FEDERATION' arcs across the upper portion of the central star, with the dates '1901–2001' appearing below. Around the outer border, the names of the Australian states and territories — 'NEW SOUTH WALES', 'SOUTH AUSTRALIA', 'TASMANIA', 'NORTHERN TERRITORY', 'VICTORIA', 'WESTERN AUSTRALIA', and 'QUEENSLAND' — are inscribed in the fields between the vignettes, along with the Perth Mint 'P' mintmark. |

Issued for the centenary of Australian Federation, this coin was one of six state-tribute pieces released across 2001, each allocated to a different state or territory. New South Wales held particular significance as the federation movement's political battleground — it was NSW's reluctant agreement to join, secured only after prolonged negotiations over customs revenue and the location of the national capital, that made the Commonwealth possible at all.
The pad-printing technique used for colour application was relatively novel for the Royal Australian Mint at this date.
