The "Discover Australia" series, running through the early 2010s, was Perth Mint's sustained effort to market Australian wildlife coinage internationally — particularly into the Asian collector market, where silver rounds with exotic fauna sold aggressively. The pad-printing process used here applies a color layer directly onto the struck silver surface, a technique Perth was refining during this period to compete with enameled issues from European mints.
Kookaburra imagery carries some irony in this context: the bird already anchors Perth's long-running Kookaburra bullion series, making this a second, distinct product line featuring the same species in the same year.
