| 背面描述 | A dignified draped bust of Dame Nellie Melba, depicted wearing a pearl necklace, faces right in left-centre field, rendered with fine portrait detail. To the right, an engraved floral spray — including roses and foliage — fills the field, with the engraver's initials AH visible within the design. The curved legend DAME NELLIE MELBA - 1861-1931 arcs along the upper periphery. The Perth Mint privy mark P appears at lower right. The overall composition evokes the Edwardian era in which the celebrated Australian operatic soprano rose to international fame. |

Dame Nellie Melba — born Helen Mitchell in Melbourne in 1861 — became so internationally famous that both a dessert (peach Melba) and a thin crisp toast were named after her. She was the first Australian to achieve genuine global celebrity as a performer, retiring and un-retiring from opera so many times that "doing a Melba" entered Australian slang for a drawn-out farewell. This Perth Mint commemorative was issued as part of a broader Australian Legends series recognizing figures of national cultural significance.
Melba died in 1931, making this coin an 80th-anniversary issue — though the Perth Mint did not prominently market it as such.
