Reverse description The reverse features a pad-printed color design depicting two Abbott's Booby birds (known locally as Golden Bosun Birds) in flight, rendered in high relief against a polished field with a subtle golden luster. In the lower foreground, a vivid red-colored Christmas Island Red Crab (Gecarcoidea natalis) is shown in naturalistic detail, applied via pad printing. The commemorative inscription '50 YEARS 1958-2008' appears to the left of center, with the legends 'CHRISTMAS ISLAND' and 'AUSTRALIAN TERRITORY' arcing along the left and right periphery respectively. The designer's initials 'SB' appear at lower left, and the Perth Mint 'P' mintmark is visible at lower right.
