Reverse description Central depiction of a Māori figure dressed in traditional flax skirt and garment, shown grasping a twisted rope with both hands raised, in the act of pulling down or capturing the sun — a reference to the Māori legend of Māui snaring the sun. The figure is set against a richly detailed background of interlocking Māori koru and kowhaiwhai scroll motifs arranged in a circular medallion pattern, rendered in high relief against a recessed field. The legend 'TAHI TĀRA' arches across the upper left of the field, and 'ONE DOLLAR' appears along the lower right. The rim is bordered by a fine beaded inner circle and a decorative outer band.
