Reverse description A finely detailed high-relief rendering of an Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle (Aquila audax) perched upon a rocky branch, its body turned three-quarters left with head facing left in profile, wings folded and plumage rendered with exceptional sculptural depth. The curved legend AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE arcs along the right and upper field against a frosted band. To the left field, the inscriptions 2016, 1oz, 999 SILVER appear in a vertical arrangement, and the Perth Mint privy mark P is visible at the lower centre near the branch.

Additional information

The Wedge-Tailed Eagle bullion series, launched by the Perth Mint in 2014, was designed partly to compete with established silver eagle programs from the US and Austrian mints in the international bullion market. The high-relief proof variant — struck multiple times with polished dies on specially prepared planchets — exists as a premium tier above the standard bullion release, commanding a collector premium well beyond spot silver value.

Perth's high-relief strikes from this period are known for pronounced die wear across short production runs, keeping certified populations low.
