| Beschrijving keerzijde | A finely detailed rendering of a laughing kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) perched in three-quarter profile on a diagonal eucalyptus branch occupies the central field, with additional foliage rendered in low relief in the lower foreground. The bird's plumage is depicted with exceptional sculptural precision, with contrasting burnished and frosted surfaces accentuating feather detail. The curved legend 'THE AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA' arcs along the upper periphery, while the date '2009' and the privy mark 'P20' appear in the left field. The inscription '1 OZ 999 SILVER' is engraved along the lower border, and the designer's initials 'JG' are visible in the right field near the branch. |

The Australian Kookaburra bullion series, running since 1990, changes its reverse design annually — a deliberate policy by the Perth Mint to drive collector demand alongside the purely bullion market. The 2009 issue sits in a period when the Mint was aggressively expanding its silver program in response to surging investor appetite following the 2008 financial crisis, and mintage figures from this year reflect that spike in demand.
The fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley, was introduced on Australian coinage in 1999.
