Additional information

The Australian Kookaburra series, running continuously since 1990, changes its reverse design annually — a deliberate strategy by the Perth Mint to drive collector demand through series completion pressure. The 2009 issue was struck during a period of sharply elevated silver investment demand triggered by the 2008 financial crisis, and the Mint reported significant allocation constraints on bullion product lines throughout that year.

Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, introduced on Australian coinage in 1999, appears here in its tenth year of use on this series.
