Reverse description A kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) is depicted perched on a eucalyptus branch at centre, facing left with fine feather detail rendered in high relief against a polished field. A circular privy mark in the lower field depicts the two-faced Roman god Janus with the Latin inscription JANVS and JANVARIVS, referencing the month of January. The circumferential legend THE AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA 1 OZ. 999 SILVER runs along the upper border within a beaded rim, and the date 2000 appears at the base.
