Additional information

The Australian Kookaburra silver dollar series, running since 1990, changes its reverse design annually — a deliberate strategy by the Perth Mint to drive collector demand through artificial scarcity of each year's type. The 2009 gilded variant applies selective gold plating to the bird and branch only, a finish technique the Perth Mint has used across multiple bullion programs to create tiered collectibility within a single issue without altering the underlying silver content.
