| Beschrijving keerzijde | Highly detailed depiction of the King of the Dead, centrally positioned and wearing an ornate crown, his gaunt, bearded visage rendered with striking realism. Flanking him are several spectral members of his undead army, their hollow, skeletal faces emerging from the field in high relief. The composition draws from Peter Jackson's film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Return of the King', capturing the ethereal menace of the Army of the Dead. The denomination '$1' appears in the lower field, and the designer's mark is visible at the lower right. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Part of New Zealand's "Lord of the Rings" licensing program tied to Peter Jackson's film trilogy, this piece was issued during the global theatrical run of *The Return of the King*. The Reserve Bank contracted the New Zealand Mint for the series, one of the more commercially aggressive coin programs undertaken by a Pacific sovereign issuer at the time. Production was aimed squarely at the collector and film merchandise market rather than circulation.
KM#265 is one of several distinct reverse types in the series, each allocated its own catalog number despite sharing identical specifications throughout.
