Superimposed over and around the letter are finely engraved depictions of two emus — one adult standing tall to the right, and one younger bird reclining in the foreground — both executed with naturalistic detail characteristic of Bronwyn King's artistry. An ornate decorative border of interlocking scalloped and beaded motifs frames the inner field. No peripheral legend appears on the reverse, allowing the letter and fauna motif to dominate the composition. |

The Royal Australian Mint's Alphabet Collection ran across three years and targeted the children's collectible market directly — an unusually explicit demographic pivot for a sovereign mint. Pad printing, the technique borrowed from industrial product decoration, allowed polychrome surface detail impossible through traditional die work alone. The process bonds ink to the coin's surface under a silicone pad, a method the RAM adopted for several issues in this period when colour detail was required without sacrificing the underlying proof finish.
