Australia's decimal changeover on 14 February 1966 was one of the most ambitious public education campaigns the country had undertaken, involving years of preparation, a dedicated Decimal Currency Board, and a jingle — "In come the dollars and in come the cents" — broadcast so relentlessly that Australians of a certain age still recall it unprompted. The dollar replaced the Australian pound at a rate of two dollars to one pound, deliberately avoiding a one-to-one conversion to sidestep the political optics of devaluation.
The Royal Australian Mint opened that same year, its Canberra facility purpose-built to handle decimal production — making 2016 a dual anniversary.
