Obverse description The fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, faces right wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. Inset within the field is a miniature reproduction of the Australian Florin, displaying the Commonwealth Coat of Arms in its centre. The legends ELIZABETH II and AUSTRALIA flank the effigy, with the date 2016 and the commemorative inscription FIFTY YEARS AUSTRALIA appearing within or adjacent to the florin cartouche. The design commemorates the 50th anniversary of Australian decimal currency, introduced in 1966.
