The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, established in 1983, issues currency on behalf of eight territories — a monetary union that has outlasted several of its member states' own constitutional arrangements. The 4th portrait of Elizabeth II, sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley, replaced the Raphael Maklouf effigy across most Commonwealth coinage beginning in the late 1990s, with the ECCB adopting it for this series around 2002.
The dollar coin circulates across Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Anguilla, and Montserrat — eight jurisdictions sharing a single physical coin struck at the Royal Mint.
