Additional information

Issued to mark the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, which were held in October of that year immediately following the Olympics — the first time a host city had committed contractually to staging both events at the same scale and in the same venues. The Royal Australian Mint produced this piece as part of a broader commemorative program that was, by volume and variety, one of the most ambitious coin series Australia had undertaken for a single sporting event.

The Sydney Games are widely credited with reshaping public perception of Paralympic sport, drawing television audiences that dwarfed any previous edition.
