| Obverse description | The right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the fourth portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, shown wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2009 1 DOLLAR encircles the portrait along the periphery, with the designer's initials IRB appearing below the bust truncation. The design is executed in a refined, realistic style characteristic of Rank-Broadley's portraiture. |

Issued to mark the centenary of the sport's national governing body, Swimming Australia, which was founded in 1909. The Perth Mint produced a number of these themed commemorative dollars throughout the 2000s in aluminium bronze, targeting the collector and gifting market rather than general circulation — most examples survive in near-pristine condition for exactly that reason.
