Additional information

Issued to mark the 1990 Commonwealth Games held in Auckland — New Zealand's first time hosting the event — this dollar was released a year ahead of the Games as part of a broader commemorative program. The Auckland Games were notable for a near-complete turnout of Commonwealth nations, a contrast to the boycott-plagued 1986 Edinburgh Games where roughly a third of eligible nations stayed away over the New Zealand rugby team's tour of apartheid South Africa.
