Additional information

The "Dollar Decade" issue marks ten years since Australia replaced its one-dollar note with a coin in 1984 — a transition the public initially resisted. Vending machine operators and retailers lobbied hard for the change, while everyday Australians grumbled about pockets full of heavy metal. Within a few years, acceptance was complete, and the note was quietly discontinued by the Reserve Bank.

Collected far more than it circulated, this commemorative saw most examples pulled from circulation immediately after release.
