The Australian Kookaburra series began in 1990 as Perth Mint's answer to the dominant silver bullion programs of the era — the American Eagle, the Maple Leaf — and distinguished itself by changing the reverse design annually, a deliberate move to stimulate collector demand alongside bullion buyers. The 1993 and 1994 issues fall within the series' early growth phase, when annual mintages were still relatively modest and secondary market premiums above spot were beginning to establish themselves.
KM#212 covers both years under a single catalog number, though the two issues carry distinct reverse designs and separate mintage figures.
