The Australian Kookaburra series launched in 1990 as Perth's answer to the dominant bullion programs already established by the Maple Leaf and Britannia. Each annual issue carries a new kookaburra design — a deliberate departure from the static imagery of most bullion coins, intended to drive collector demand on top of base silver value. It worked: the series attracted a dual market of stackers and date collectors from the outset.
The 1992 issue falls under the third effigy of Elizabeth II, sculpted by Raphael Maklouf and used on Australian coinage from 1985 until its replacement in 1998.
