Australia's switch to decimal currency on 14 February 1966 — dubbed "Decimal Day" — was one of the most logistically complex currency changeovers in the Commonwealth, requiring a public education campaign so extensive that a jingle, "In come the dollars, in come the cents," was broadcast nationally for months beforehand. This 1996 proof commemorates the thirtieth anniversary of that transition. The Royal Australian Mint in Canberra handled the entire changeover domestically, a point of national pride given that earlier Australian coinage had been struck partly in London and Calcutta.
