背面描述 Central design features Captain James Cook's three-masted barque HMS Endeavour under full sail, depicted sailing to the right across open waters. To the right of the vessel appears a quarter-facing portrait bust of Captain James Cook himself. The legend 'COOK ISLANDS JAMES COOK' arcs around the upper periphery, while the denomination 'ONE DOLLAR' is inscribed along the lower periphery. The overall composition commemorates Cook's voyages of discovery and his association with the Cook Islands.

附加信息

New Zealand's one-dollar coin was introduced in 1967 as part of the country's decimal currency conversion, replacing the pre-decimal pound system. The Cook Islands, a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand, used New Zealand currency as its official medium of exchange, and this 1970 issue reflects that administrative arrangement — struck under Reserve Bank of New Zealand authority for Cook Islands circulation specifically.

The second portrait of Elizabeth II, by Arnold Machin, had been adopted across Commonwealth coinage from 1968 onward.
