| Reversbeschreibung | The crowned Royal Arms of New Zealand displayed centrally, with a female figure holding a New Zealand ensign as dexter supporter and a Maori warrior bearing a taiaha as sinister supporter, the shield quartered with the Southern Cross stars, a sailing ship, a fleece, and crossed hammers over a wheat sheaf, all above a scroll inscribed 'NEW ZEALAND'. Arranged in a semicircular arc around the base of the arms are ten coins representing the full spectrum of New Zealand coinage from 1933 to 1983, including pre-decimal issues such as the halfcrown, florin, shilling, threepence, and sixpence, alongside decimal coins of 50, 20, 10, 2, and 1 cents. The commemorative legend '1933 NEW ZEALAND COINAGE 1983' curves around the upper field, with the denomination 'ONE DOLLAR' inscribed below the arms. |

| Zusätzliche Informationen |
The 1983 New Zealand dollar commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of New Zealand's distinct coinage — the country having issued its first independent series in 1933, prior to which British and Australian coins circulated alongside locally produced pieces. The proof version in sterling silver was struck for collector distribution, the Reserve Bank having established a pattern by the early 1980s of issuing commemorative silver proofs alongside base-metal circulation strikes for significant anniversaries.
Machin's second portrait of Elizabeth II, introduced on New Zealand coinage in 1966, appears here in its final years of use on the dollar — the third Maklouf effigy would replace it before the decade was out.
