Obverse lettering ELIZABETH II NEW ZEALAND 1983
Reverse description The crowned Royal Arms of New Zealand displayed centrally, with a female figure holding a New Zealand ensign as dexter supporter and a Maori warrior bearing a taiaha as sinister supporter, the shield quartered with the Southern Cross stars, a sailing ship, a fleece, and crossed hammers over a wheat sheaf, all above a scroll inscribed 'NEW ZEALAND'. Arranged in a semicircular arc around the base of the arms are ten coins representing the full spectrum of New Zealand coinage from 1933 to 1983, including pre-decimal issues such as the halfcrown, florin, shilling, threepence, and sixpence, alongside decimal coins of 50, 20, 10, 2, and 1 cents. The commemorative legend '1933 NEW ZEALAND COINAGE 1983' curves around the upper field, with the denomination 'ONE DOLLAR' inscribed below the arms.
