| Reverse description | Colorized depiction of the First Doctor, portrayed by William Hartnell, shown in three-quarter view facing left, dressed in his characteristic Edwardian frock coat and cravat. A Dalek is rendered in raised relief to the right, while the TARDIS police box appears in the color-printed background at the left, set against a cosmic nebula field in blue tones. A horizontal banner in the upper field bears the 'DOCTOR WHO' logo with the inscription 'First Doctor 1963 - 1966' to its right. A BBC copyright notice appears along the left rim. |

Part of a BBC-licensed series issued through Niue's long-running collector coin program, this piece appeared in 2013 to mark the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, first broadcast on 23 November 1963 — the day after the Kennedy assassination, a scheduling accident that arguably helped the show survive its shaky debut by dominating the following week's repeat broadcast.
