Obverse description Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in tiara and pearl necklace at right, within an ornate intaglio frame, with a large numeral '1' vignette in blue guilloche at left centre. The legal tender inscription appears in English, Malay, Chinese, and Tamil scripts in the central panel, with the date '21st March 1953' and a facsimile signature below the numeral. A decorative border of fine guilloche engraving frames the entire face.

The design is rendered in multicolour intaglio print with fine guilloche underprint throughout.
