The Bank of Jamaica issued this note as part of a collector series commemorating the 25th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation — an unusual choice for a Caribbean republic that had been independent since 1962. Jamaica had no constitutional obligation to mark the occasion, making the decision a deliberate diplomatic and commercial one rather than a ceremonial necessity.
Thomas De La Rue produced it for the collector market, not circulation. These were sold in presentation packaging and never entered general use.
