The legend CHRISTMAS ISLAND arcs along the upper rim, while KIRIBATI and the date 2016 appear along the lower rim. The coin's specifications, 20 g Ag 925, are inscribed vertically along the right side of the field.

The reindeer is framed within a decorative circular guilloche border, with holly sprigs and jingle bells arranged symmetrically in the lower left and right fields.
