The Kwangsi Bank was one of several provincial institutions that emerged in the chaotic early months of the Republic of China, issuing notes before any coherent national banking framework existed. Kwangsi province — later romanized as Guangxi — had its own political and military establishment that operated with considerable autonomy from Beijing throughout the Republican period, and its bank reflected that independence.
P#S2351 sits in the "S" prefix of the Pick catalog, denoting regional rather than central government issue. Redemption reliability for notes from provincial banks of this period varied sharply depending on the political fortunes of the issuing authority, and Kwangsi's notes were no exception.
