Žalgiris — known in German as Tannenberg and in Lithuanian as the Battle of Grunwald — was fought on 15 July 1410, and remains the largest engagement in medieval European history by some measures, pitting the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth against the Teutonic Knights. The Order never recovered its regional dominance. Niue issues silver coins of this type under licensing arrangements that make it one of the most prolific small-territory minting programs in the world, with actual distribution handled entirely by external bullion dealers.
