The Town Musicians of Bremen never actually reach Bremen in the Brothers Grimm tale — the donkey, dog, cat, and rooster simply scare off a band of robbers and settle into their stolen cottage, never completing the journey the title implies. Grimm first published the story in 1819 in the second volume of Kinder- und Hausmärchen.
