Niue has functioned as a bullion and collector coin issuing proxy for decades, licensing its sovereignty to the Perth Mint and others in exchange for a share of seigniorage — a practical arrangement for a self-governing territory of roughly 1,500 people with almost no domestic numismatic demand. The Red Kangaroo series is among the more straightforward bullion programs in this arrangement, competing directly with the Australian Kangaroo issued by the Perth Mint under its own authority.
Charles III's effigy appears here in place of Elizabeth II's following her death in September 2022 — the transition affecting virtually every Commonwealth-affiliated coin program simultaneously.
