Niue has operated as a prolific bullion and commemorative licensing platform since the 1990s, effectively selling its monetary authority to foreign minting operations — primarily the New Zealand-based NZ Mint — in exchange for royalty revenue. This piece belongs to that commercial tradition rather than any domestic monetary need; Niue's roughly 1,600 residents use the New Zealand dollar for all actual transactions.
Proxima Centauri, at 4.24 light-years, is the closest known star to the Sun and hosts at least one confirmed exoplanet in its habitable zone, Proxima b, identified in 2016.
