The nguzu nguzu is a carved prow figurine traditionally fixed to the bows of war canoes in the Western Solomons, believed to ward off dangerous spirits and locate schools of fish. Its appearance on the dollar coin is one of the more culturally deliberate choices in Pacific numismatics — the figure has been on Solomon Islands coinage since independence in 1978, outlasting three monarchs on the obverse.
Charles III's accession portrait replaced Elizabeth II's following her death in September 2022, making 2025 issues among the first steady-circulation strikes with the new effigy reaching the Solomon Islands economy at scale.
