| 背面描述 | A finely detailed naturalistic scene depicting a pair of rowi (Okarito brown kiwi, Apteryx rowi) in a nesting posture amid native New Zealand forest undergrowth; the standing bird inclines its long bill downward toward its smaller, curled companion beside a large egg on the ground. The central design is framed by an ornamental border of traditional Maori koru scrollwork. At the lower left, a circular cartouche bears the denomination $1. The legend ROWI I ŌKĀRITO BROWN KIWI Apteryx rowi curves along the lower portion of the inner border. |

The rowi — Apteryx rowi — is the rarest of New Zealand's five kiwi species, with wild population estimates hovering around 600 individuals concentrated almost entirely in the Ōkārito forest on the South Island's West Coast. Its survival depends substantially on Operation Nest Egg, a programme in which eggs are removed from nests, hatched in captivity, and chicks raised until large enough to survive stoat predation before release.
This is the third monarch to appear on New Zealand's Kiwi bullion series since its 2014 inception.
