Niue has operated as a prolific licensing hub for themed commemorative coinage since the 1990s, issuing coins under agreements with major entertainment properties while the New Zealand dollar remains its actual circulating currency. The Jurassic Park franchise, now controlled by Universal following its complicated rights history through Amblin and Universal's various restructurings, is among dozens of IP licenses Niue has monetized for the collector market rather than circulation.
