| 背面描述 | The reverse presents a high-relief mirror-proof bust of J. Robert Oppenheimer facing three-quarters to the right, depicted from the shoulders upward with characteristic gaunt features and close-cropped hair rendered in polished silver. Behind the bust, a full-colour printed background depicts a vivid mushroom cloud rising against an orange and red sky, evoking the Trinity nuclear test. The curved legend J. ROBERT OPPENHEIMER arcs along the upper portion of the field in bold raised Latin lettering. The composition combines the dramatic coloured background with the sculptural silver portrait to striking effect. |

Niue has long served as a licensing vehicle for third-party bullion and commemorative programs, with the actual creative and commercial decisions made entirely off-island. This Oppenheimer piece is part of that trade — a modern silver round dressed as legal tender, issued under Niuean authority because the arrangement is financially convenient for both parties.
Oppenheimer's security clearance was revoked in 1954 after closed-door hearings driven largely by Lewis Strauss, a personal antagonist with influence over the Atomic Energy Commission. It was reinstated symbolically in December 2022 when the Department of Energy formally vacated the 1954 decision.
