Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse features a full-colour reproduction of Cassius Marcellus Coolidge's celebrated painting A Friend in Need (1903), the most iconic work from his Dogs Playing Poker series. The scene depicts a group of anthropomorphic dogs seated around a green baize card table engaged in a game of poker, rendered in vibrant colour against the silver field. The composition faithfully replicates the original oil painting's warm tones and detailed characterisation of the canine figures. The coloured artwork fills the majority of the rectangular reverse field, framed by a raised border consistent with the obverse design.

Aanvullende informatie

Niue has operated as a prolific licensing hub for novelty bullion since the 1990s, its nominal status as a New Zealand realm territory giving it the legal standing to issue coinage bearing the British monarch's effigy while entering licensing agreements entirely outside London's control. The Dogs Playing Poker series derives from Cassius Marcellus Coolidge's 1903 oil paintings, commissioned originally as advertising art for cigars by Brown & Bigelow.

Coolidge painted sixteen works in the series. The actual poker-playing dogs number nine of those sixteen.
