The Battle of Midway, fought June 4–7, 1942, is widely considered the turning point of the Pacific War — the moment the Imperial Japanese Navy lost its offensive initiative after four fleet carriers were sunk in a single engagement. Cook Islands has issued commemorative silver dollars under licensing arrangements for decades, with the series format leaning heavily on anniversaries and military themes marketed primarily to collector audiences in North America and Europe.
Charles III's effigy began appearing on Commonwealth coinage following Elizabeth II's death in September 2022, making 2024 among the earliest years for his portrait to circulate across the full range of Cook Islands issues.
