| Описание аверса | Central to the obverse is a small inset effigy of King Charles III facing left, engraved after the portrait by Martin Jennings, surrounded by a circular legend reading ONE DOLLAR · CHARLES III · COOK ISLANDS. Flanking the effigy are stylized elements of the American flag — a star-spangled blue canton to the left and billowing red and white stripes to the right — rendered in high relief against a polished field. The upper portion of the field bears the bold incuse inscription UNCOMMON VALOR WAS A COMMON VIRTUE arranged in four lines, framed by a ring of thirteen five-pointed stars along the inner border. The left and right periphery carry the additional legends SEMPER FIDELIS and 1OZ .9999 AG respectively. |

Iwo Jima was secured by U.S. forces in March 1945 after 36 days of some of the deadliest fighting in the Pacific theater — roughly 6,800 Americans and an estimated 18,000 Japanese killed. The island's strategic value was its airfields, which subsequently saved thousands of B-29 crew members forced to make emergency landings on return flights from Japan.
Cook Islands has issued commemorative silver dollars under Royal Australian Mint and various private mint arrangements for decades, with the series covering WWII subjects extensively since the late 2010s.
