This piece belongs to a retrospective series revisiting the six portrait types used on Australian decimal coinage since 1966. The "XA Falcon" designation references the Ford XA Falcon, an Australian-built car selected as the prize in a 1972 promotional competition tied to the dollar coin — a marketing exercise that linked everyday circulation coinage to domestic consumer culture in a way the mint has not repeated since. The first Charles III portrait, by sculptor Jody Clark, was adopted by Australia in 2023 following the death of Elizabeth II.
