| Reverse description | Five kangaroos in dynamic poses — a composition known as the 'Mob of Roos' — are depicted in high sculptural relief across the central field, representing animals in various stances of movement and repose. The large numeral '1' appears at lower centre, partially overlapping the kangaroos, with the denomination legend DOLLAR inscribed in bold capitals immediately to its right along the lower field. The design, a classic motif of the Australian dollar coinage first introduced in 1984, is rendered here with exceptional detail befitting the proof gold format. |

The Royal Australian Mint adopted Charles III's effigy following his accession in September 2022, with Jody Clark's portrait — the same used across Commonwealth coinage — selected without the open design competition that preceded several earlier royal portraits. Australia was among the first sovereign mints to confirm the portrait specification and move toward circulation and bullion production under the new reign.
The .9999 fineness places this above the older Australian gold sovereign standard and aligns it with the broader Lunar and Kangaroo bullion programs.
