Reverse description Central design depicting a whimsical castle constructed entirely from confectionery items, including cake tiers decorated with bead-like candy chains, conical lollipop turrets, and assorted sweets adorning the battlements and walls. To the left of the castle stands a stylised numeral '1' rendered as a birthday candle with a lit flame, accompanied by a curling ribbon or streamer above. Scattered candies are shown at the base of the castle in the lower field. The denomination 'DOLLAR' appears below the numeral '1' on the left, and the legend 'CANDY CASTLE' curves along the lower rim. The Royal Australian Mint's 'A' mintmark is visible to the right of the central design.

Additional information

Part of the Royal Australian Mint's ongoing collectible dollar program, the "Candy Castle" release targets the gift and novelty market that has kept the RAM's coloured and themed dollar series commercially viable for years. These pieces are struck to collector standard but spend their lives in packaging rather than pockets — a deliberate production choice that keeps mintage figures modest and secondary market premiums predictable. Charles III's first portrait on Australian coinage, sculpted by King's official effigy sculptor Sacha Jafri, was approved following the accession in September 2022.
