The Kookaburra series launched in 1990 and has run uninterrupted since, making it one of the longest-running annual bullion programs from any mint. The antiquing process — a controlled chemical patination applied post-strike — was introduced to the line as a premium finish option, darkening the recessed fields to create artificial depth and contrast the Perth Mint markets toward collector buyers rather than bullion stackers.
Charles III's first portrait by Jody Clark, adopted by the Perth Mint for Australian coinage following the Queen's death in September 2022, appears here for one of its earlier annual issues.
