Australia's legal tender wildlife coins issued under the Zoo series have been a RAM staple since the early 2000s, but the 2024 issues carry a doubled distinction: they mark the first portraits of Charles III on this format following his accession in September 2022, with Jody Clark's effigy replacing Maklouf's long-running Elizabeth II profile mid-series. Australia Zoo itself — the Queensland facility made internationally prominent by Steve Irwin — holds one of the largest giraffe herds in the Southern Hemisphere under its African savanna precinct.
