Obverse description Plain, design-free field occupying the central area of the obverse, with the denomination ONE prominently displayed in large, bold capital letters at center. A circular legend in Latin script reads N. CAROLINA GOLD. ONE DOLLAR. arranged around the full periphery of the coin, with full stops serving as separators between words. The rim is defined by a fine reeded border, and the overall design is stark and utilitarian, consistent with the privately struck coinage produced at the Bechtler mint in Rutherfordton, North Carolina.
