Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse features a dynamic racing scene in high relief against a mirror-polished field. In the centre, a Formula 1 single-seater racing car is depicted in three-quarter frontal view, approaching the finish line beneath a large waving chequered flag. Grandstand spectators are rendered in low relief to the left and right background. The arc legend DEUTSCHE FORMEL 1 PILOTEN curves along the upper rim, with the denomination $1 inscribed below it near the flag pole. The word ZIEL (German for 'finish') appears in large block letters across the lower field, flanked by the date 20 02, with the issuing authority REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA inscribed along the lower rim.

Aanvullende informatie

Liberia's early 2000s dollar series became notorious among collectors for exactly the wrong reasons — the government licensed its coinage program to private mints and distributors who flooded the market with commemorative issues bearing the likenesses of footballers, celebrities, and public figures, sold almost exclusively to collectors abroad rather than circulating domestically. Bernd Schneider, the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, was among dozens of German footballers commemorated in this run.

These pieces were never intended for circulation and reached Liberia in name only.
